Since 2001, Tim Collins has been writing and performing his own comedic, political, multicharacter one-man shows. And now he’s bringing his newest full-length tour de force to the Gaslight Theater for two weeks only. From Oct. 10 – 19, Collins will present A Fire as Bright as Heaven—a play that pits the individual amid the alienation and anxieties of national and global realities in the 21st century.

Tim Collins (writer & performer)
Tim is an actor and writer who has been creating and touring his own one-man shows since 2001. Receiving theatrical training in London and New England, he is a recipient of the Sally and Valerio Montanari Theater Prize, a three-time winner of the 15 Minute Playwriting Festival (15minutefestival.com), was commissioned by The Center For Cultural Exchange, and was awarded a Wallis Foundation Grant. Tim was selected to be a member of the Maine Arts Commission "Touring Artist Roster," and was a featured performer at the 24th Annual "Sharing The Fire" National Storytelling Conference at M.I.T., in Boston. Tim has traveled the country performing his unique brand of solo theater, from venues as far-flung as Caribou, Maine; Austin, Texas; and South Central, L.A.
Tim moved to St. Louis in 2005 and has worked with a variety of St. Louis-based theatre organizations, including Jest Entertainment. He won the position of team captain on the 2006 St. Louis Slam Poetry Team, which competed nationally. Tim was also featured on HBO’s "The Wire" online performance competition (www.blastro.com/spokenwordbattle), where he acquired over 1,000 hits.
In addition, he has taught improvisational comedy, theater and solo performance to teens and adults at colleges, camps, and art centers throughout New England and the Midwest, including Bennington College, Bates College and COCA. Tim has also taught Shakespeare to incarcerated teens at the Long Creek Correctional Facility in South Portland, Maine, for the past three years. Most recently, A Fire as Bright as Heaven premiered in the 12th Annual New York City International Fringe Festival in August. A Fire as Bright as Heaven was selected to be published in Plays And Playwrights 2009, an anthology of new, emerging playwrights. The anthology, published by the New York Theatre Experience, is due for release in February 2009.
